The Return of Southend Pier’s On The Decks

Southend Pier is once again hosting an open-air disco, returning for its second year to the delight of locals and visitors alike. Last summer saw the debut of this unique event, which has proven so popular that it’s back with a vengeance on Bank Holiday Monday from 1pm until 7pm.

A Laid-Back Atmosphere at the End of Southend Pier

On The Decks offers a laid-back atmosphere for those looking to unwind after a day’s worth of activities. Deck chairs and colorful beach huts provide the perfect spot to bask in the sun, sip on cocktails, and enjoy live music. The event is set against the backdrop of the stunning Thames Estuary, offering visitors an unbeatable view.

Family-Friendly and Relaxing

Families have embraced On The Decks as a treat at the end of their day out on the pier. David Joseph, who travelled from Havering with his family, described it as “brilliant” and said that everyone was having a great time. “The atmosphere is fantastic,” he noted, praising both the live music and bar services.

For those seeking something more active, On The Decks also caters to the dancers in the crowd. Sally and Carmel from Chelmsford mentioned that they loved soul music and had even taken a dance break during their visit. They expressed their intention to return for more over the summer months.

A Vision of Recapturing Southend Pier’s Bustling Party Atmosphere

Southend Council introduced On The Decks last year as part of a broader effort to recapture the bustling party atmosphere that once defined this iconic pier. Matt Dent, Southend Labour councillor for business, culture, and tourism, was delighted to see the event’s success from last summer and is now looking forward to its return.

“On The Decks was one of the highlights of last summer on the Pier,” said Dent. “With the bank holiday weekend bringing sunshine and warm weather, it’s a fantastic opportunity for residents to head down to the Pier, have a drink, dance, and enjoy everything the Estuary has to offer.”

As the event gears up for its second year, Southend Pier continues to be a focal point of community engagement and leisure activities. Whether you’re looking for a place to relax or dance under the stars, On The Decks is set to provide exactly that.

You might think this is new, but… it’s not always what you expect at the end of Southend Pier.
