The bus, carrying seven schoolchildren, one begeleider (a teacher or support staff member), and the driver, was reportedly traveling on an overpass that was closed due to ongoing maintenance work. Tragically, as the bus crossed the tracks, it was struck by a train, resulting in several deaths.
According to An Berger of the federal police force, “The bus was running under contract for De Lijn and was heading towards Vierhuizen when it was struck by an oncoming train. The first responders have already arrived at the scene, and efforts are being made to identify the victims.”
