The Witcher 3: An Unlikely Comeback
You might think this is new, but The Witcher 3 is about to get an unlikely third expansion. CD Projekt Red has officially announced Songs of the Past, a brand new adventure for Geralt of Rivia. And it’s set to drop in 2027.
The Delayed Reveal
CD Projekt Red originally planned to make this big reveal during their REDstreams tomorrow, but let’s say they found something they didn’t expect on the RED Launcher. The live stream, which was supposed to take place on May 28 at 11 am ET / 4 pm BST, got pushed up due to a launcher leak that moved their plans along.
The Development Team
Fool’s Theory developed Songs of the Past with CD Projekt Red co-developing. It’s a team comprising industry veterans who worked on The Witcher 3. More details will be released in late summer 2026, but for now, the focus is on getting ready to launch next year.
Anniversary and Future Projects
The announcement comes as CD Projekt Red marks the tenth anniversary of The Witcher 3’s fan-favorite expansion, Blood and Wine. Meanwhile, the company is working on multiple projects, including The Witcher 4, a remake of The Witcher 1, and a multiplayer game set within the Witcher universe.
The future of The Witcher series continues to look bright, with CD Projekt Red clearly committed to keeping the franchise alive through new content. Songs of the Past might just be the beginning of more expansions down the line.
