When the entertainment world buzzed with rumors of an engagement between Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon, the duo addressed these speculations head-on. In a candid conversation during her appearance on ANI’s podcast, Raveena opened up about why they eventually parted ways.
Acknowledging Rumors
Raveena began by addressing the persistent engagement rumors that had been circulating for years. “It comes up and comes up like there’s a war between everyone he is involved with,” she said, referring to Akshay Kumar. She explained, “Hello, once I moved out of his life, I was already dating someone else, and he was already dating someone else. So, where will jealousy come from?” This statement highlighted the complexity behind their decision to end things.
90s on-screen and off-screen
The 1990s were a golden era for Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon in Bollywood. They were not only paired together in several films like Mohra, Daava, Barood, Main Khiladi Tu Anari, and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi but also shared a personal connection off-screen while shooting for Mohra. This relationship eventually led to an engagement, which later turned into a broken engagement.
Quitting Acting for Personal Life
Raveena took some time out from her acting career before marriage due to wanting to live a simpler life. In an interview with Simi Garewal, she shared that this decision was a voluntary one made after getting engaged to someone whom she knew well. “It was a voluntary decision,” Raveena stated. “I was engaged to somebody I knew. This is what I wanted: to lead a very normal life.
I quit in advance before marriage because we did think that when there will be the last day of my shoot, we will go ahead and get married.” However, upon restarting her career, Akshay requested her to leave acting again for their wedding. Raveena firmly stated, “Once I chose you over my career, but now I will choose my career over you.”
No Engagement, No Wedding
Raveena also clarified that the engagement rumors were not true. She mentioned an elaborate engagement ceremony with a pandit performing pujas and the whole family flying down from Delhi, including one of her elders putting a red dupatta on her head. “I think that was mistaken to be a wedding, which it wasn’t,” she said. This statement dispelled any misconceptions about their relationship.
