Consumer Alert: Pilgrim Shampoo and Conditioner Set Pulled From Market

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued an urgent alert, calling on consumers to stop using the Pilgrim Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner Set immediately. Inspectors discovered that the widely-used hair care products contain a prohibited substance, posing significant chemical risks.

Banned Ingredient in Popular Hair Care

The OPSS stated, “The product presents a serious chemical risk as the ingredients list indicates it contains Zinc Pyrithione, which is prohibited for use in cosmetic items.” This ingredient was found to be present in the shampoo and conditioner carrying the batch code HS5130 Jul 2025. On Amazon, these products are listed with codes B0D5DBM7G7 for the shampoo and B0D5D9BF3Q for the conditioner.

Undeclared Allergens Pose Further Risks

Consumers may face additional hazards from undeclared allergens, including hydroxycitronellal, hexyl cinnamal, and limonene. The OPSS further noted that these products do not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on Cosmetic Products. “This could lead to consumers with sensitivities using these products and having an allergic reaction,” warned officials.

Recall Affects Multiple Fragrances

The OPSS has also recalled two designer fragrances: Hello by Lionel Richie and Hot by United Colours of Benetton Fragrances, both available at Savers Health and Beauty. These products contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA), a substance banned from cosmetic products. The recall affects all fragrances purchased from Savers stores.

Immediate Action Required

Customers who have already purchased these items are urged to return them for a full refund at Savers Health and Beauty outlets. The OPSS emphasized the importance of compliance with product safety regulations, stating that “the products do not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009.” Retailers and consumers alike are advised to exercise caution when using cosmetics and personal care items.

For more information or assistance, contact Savers Health and Beauty customer service. The OPSS recommends that all consumers check their current stock of hair care and fragrance products for potential risks before continuing use.
