The First Month Under Danny Röhl: A Reflective Journey at Rangers
Danny Röhl, the new head coach of Rangers FC, has provided an exclusive insight into his first few weeks in charge. Speaking with RangersTV, Röhl shared his thoughts on the progress made by the team and the challenges they face.
Progress and Challenges at Rangers
“I am very happy at the moment to be here at this fantastic club,” Röhl began. “The first few weeks were very busy; there were a lot of games. We had some good results, of course, but we have also had some small setbacks. All in all, I am happy with the development, especially in the league.”
When asked about his biggest challenges, Röhl highlighted the importance of understanding various aspects of the club’s calendar: “The biggest challenge has been that there are a lot of new opponents.
You have to understand what it means to play in the league, but you also have got to understand what it means to play three days later in the Europa League. I think this is the most important challenge at the moment to find a good balance.”
Building Supporter Relations
The head coach also addressed his relationship with Rangers supporters: “You can never plan this, but straight away there was a relationship. I think the first impression in Bergen was really special before the game and even after the game. When I arrived, I said it was important to respect the traditional things in the club, and it means also the supporters, they are a big part.”
Röhl emphasized the passion of the fans: “You feel the passion, even now in the last away game.
I think it is fantastic to have so many people with you. If we continue, and if we have good performances on the pitch, then I am very sure people will stay behind us.”
Introducing Scott Fry as Set-Piece Coach
The interview also touched upon a recent addition to Röhl’s backroom staff: “Scott Fry has joined the club earlier this week as set-piece coach,” Röhl explained. “It is important to understand it is not a one-man show. I need good people around me. Set pieces in general are a big part; sometimes you have tight games, and if you need a set-piece goal, it is always great that you have good opportunities.”
Röhl elaborated on the decision-making process for hiring Scott Fry: “It is about bringing things from the meeting room onto the pitch, and for this, you need a specialist.
We looked through the data and who has the best data in set pieces. We found a shortlist, and I spoke with some guys, and in the end, Scott did really well in the meeting. He has a clear idea about what he wants to do and a clear identity in the set pieces, and I am very happy to get him here.”
On the challenges of securing such talent: “It is not always easy to get people here because there is also competition in the market, and in the end, we could get him, and this is fantastic.”
Röhl’s journey at Rangers continues to unfold with these initial steps. Fans will be watching closely as the team moves forward under his leadership.
