In that year, just seven years old, Taylor Momsen took on the role of Cindy Lou Who in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” The film was more than just a movie for little Tay; it was her first major acting gig and a defining moment.
Flash forward to 2026, and the reunion isn’t happening. At least that’s what Momsen tells us while attending Steven Tyler’s 7th annual Jam for Janie Grammy Awards watch party on February 1, 2026. “Not that I know of,” she says with a shrug, her words echoing in the Hollywood Palladium.
A Possible Reunion?
But it’s not all doom and gloom. In November, Momsen did hint at the possibility of a sequel, saying, “When Jim Carrey asks you to do something, you pay attention.” The comment came as the pair had just reunited at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Momsen reminisces about her co-star, calling him “incredibly protective” and noting that their last on-screen encounter was 25 years ago. “The whole thing is so crazy,” she adds, “the odds of that are one in a billion.”
Where Are You Christmas?
The 25th anniversary of the original film saw Momsen re-record “Where Are You Christmas?” with her band The Pretty Reckless. It was more than just a song; it was a musical journey back to the early days of her career. “As a kid, when I found out Cindy was going to sing in the movie, I don’t think I’d ever been so excited,” she remembers. “I loved singing and had just started writing songs around that time.”
Momsen delves into some behind-the-scenes secrets, recounting how Jim Carrey’s over-the-top energy almost resulted in a tumble from a sled. “There was a moment where I almost fell out of the sled,” she says with a chuckle, “and he freaked out.” Yet, despite the chaos, Momsen remained unphased, laughing it off.
A Safe Haven
Carrey’s protective nature on set is something Momsen holds dear. “That’s what I remember,” she says of her time working with Carrey. “Jim was very, very protective of me as a person and as a kid, always looking out for me.” This sentiment echoes throughout their collaboration, cementing the bond between the pair.
