Dr Hilary Jones Reflects on Live Broadcast Mishap

In an candid interview, Dr Hilary Jones, the esteemed physician and regular guest on ITV’s Lorraine, shared his experience of appearing “drunk” live on air during one of his early broadcasts. The incident took place in 2019 when he was scheduled to do a live segment from Times Square, New York.

Dr Jones explained that after running the New York Marathon and celebrating with two brothers, he found himself inadvertently going live without having eaten or drunk, only consuming a significant amount of beer. “All I remember was giggling and laughing and talking rubbish because I was actually a bit drunk,” he recalled. “They’re going to sack me, I’ve made a big faux pas. What did I say?”

Producer’s Response and Future Prospects

The next day, Dr Hilary Jones contacted the show’s producers to express his regret. To his relief, they reassured him that he sounded “brilliant” on air, describing him as “euphoric” and “energetic.” This positive feedback allowed him to continue contributing to the program.

Reflecting on the future of his role, Dr Hilary mentioned that significant alterations are planned for Lorraine. Starting from 2026, the show will be reduced to a half-hour broadcast and aired on a seasonal basis.

Despite these changes, he remains optimistic about his continued involvement with breakfast TV.

“What I think I’ll be doing is guest appearances,” Dr Hilary said. “The plan is still being worked out, but there will still be medical input from me. I’ve been with them for so long that I think I’ll still be appearing on breakfast TV.”

Future of the Lorraine Show

In an interview with Woman Magazine, Lorraine herself shared her thoughts on the modifications to the show, which she has led since 2010. “It’s a different world we live in, isn’t it?” she mused. “I’m a realist and I knew there had to be cutbacks and changes. There are so many more outlets now, and television has to cut its cloth in every single department. It’s not like it was.”

Despite the changes, Lorraine remains hopeful about the future of her show. “This is just another change— who knows what will happen in six months?” she added. “They might want to expand it, they might not. I love my job, I love working with these incredible people, so we just get on with it and see what happens.”

The future of the Lorraine show under these new circumstances remains uncertain, but both Dr Hilary Jones and Lorraine herself are optimistic about how they will navigate the upcoming changes.
