“There’s so much good stuff and the great thing about this story is it impacts so many different people,” said Charnock. “Tony Audenshaw has been brilliant in it as well, as Bob, he has been superb, who’s like a further circle away from the reality of it.”

“She grew up, obviously as a parent you anticipate them growing up and changing, but she has changed in a way that he doesn’t have a dictionary for,” said Charnock. “He doesn’t understand, he doesn’t have the words in his soul to understand or even begin to contemplate what she has been through and what it might have done to her.”

April’s journey is intertwined with that of Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), who uses the perceived debt as a tool to keep her in his control. The actor revealed that April’s relationship with her father will be central to this storyline, showing both a rediscovery and a confrontation.
“April was going to come to a Halloween party with the rest of the family, she doesn’t turn up and he’s really sad about it,” Charnock explained. “So she turns up at the house and he’s on his own and the episode begins, it’s lovely actually, with them rediscovering the younger version of her and how that was for them when she was really little.”

Audiences will be kept on edge as Charnock confirmed a twist in the episode: “There’s something going to happen which is really shocking. It’s going to stagger the audience, it shocked me so much that I thought ‘Oh god, I wish I’d known about it before I read it’ because it really threw me.” He added, “It’s just a great twist of drama.”
Mark Charnock praised Amelia Flanagan for her outstanding performance in the episode: “I’ve said it so many times now, she is a remarkable actress and she can summon emotion on the spot. She’s got all the tools to carry on being a really quite brilliant actress.”
