The Iconic Mohican: Peter Wright’s Hair Plan for the World Darts Championship
In a unique twist to the World Darts Championship 2025, double champion Peter Wright has declared that he will continue with his mohican hairstyle, despite facing a challenging year. The iconic darts player faces transgender player Noa-Lynn van Leuven in the first round at the Ally Pally on Monday night.
“That was only in Minehead because I was on stage two and I know they only show the last three darts in your match, if you’re lucky,” Wright explained. “So there’s no point dressing up and having my hair done and everything.” He added: “I’ll still be Snakebite, unfortunately. I’ve created the monster and I’ve still got to stick with it.”
Wright’s Recent Struggles
Wright’s decision comes amidst a difficult year of form. The 55-year-old has slumped to world No. 30 in 2025, performing poorly even in his opening match of the recent Players Championship without his signature mohican hair-do. However, he remains optimistic about his future prospects.
“I think I prefer that as well, to be honest,” Wright said. “Obviously because I haven’t been performing, so really, the big names are not really looking out for me as a danger, I think.” He added: “If I get through the first round or second round, I normally do pretty good, so it’s just getting over them little nerves in the first round and I think I’ll do alright. I think I’ll do well.”
Targeting Michael van Gerwen
Wright is targeting a potential match against world champion MVG (Michael van Gerwen) in the third round, despite his recent poor form. “I’m looking forward to the match potentially with MVG,” Wright said. “Have a great clash with him. That’s the main target I’m looking at the moment, just baby steps.”
“I’ve just got to make sure I turn up and play darts for two-and-a-half, three weeks,” Wright added. “I’m just going to sneak round the back.” He emphasized his determination to rise back to the top: “People don’t realise that. The thing is I’m playing brilliantly in practice and it’s just not coming out on stage at the moment.”
Advice for Upcoming Matches
In a candid admission, Wright advised players like Gian van Veen and Josh Rock who might be picked for the Premier League to perform well. “The main pressure is more on them,” he said. “I think those two will be very nervous.” He also praised the achievements of Luke Hocking and Luke Humphries: “What both of them have achieved for the darts game, it’s brilliant.”
“I’m playing brilliantly in practice and why not the Worlds for it all to click together?” Wright concluded. His journey at the World Darts Championship 2025 will be closely watched by fans as he seeks to defy expectations and return to his former glory.
