“Agnus Dei” is one of the most enduring and beloved songs in contemporary Christian music, originally released on Smith’s 1990 album “Go West Young Man.” The song’s title, which translates to “Lamb of God,” references Revelation 19:6. “I think I was in a mode of writing something for my church, and this song literally fell out of the sky,” recalls Michael W. Smith. His remembrance is clear as he describes being overwhelmed by emotion upon composing the piece.
Smith’s vision for the song involved recording it with the American Boy Choir, an idea that came to fruition when he brought in Ron Huff to orchestrate the music. “The rest is history,” Smith adds, reflecting on how this early inspiration has evolved over time.

This project brings together some of the world’s most iconic worship artists with today’s leading voices in contemporary Christian music. “I think ‘Agnus Dei’ was one of my earliest memories, if not the first time I felt like the song that we see in Revelation being sung was set to melody,” Chris Brown shares, recalling his experience as a young listener.
For Brown, who is nominated for two 2026 Grammy Awards, this recording represents more than just a collaboration. “One of our goals and hopes when we record a night of worship is we want the presence of God to be experienced in the room,” he explains. “But then we would hope people would find that same presence in the kitchen and waiting at the soccer field.” This sentiment resonates with Smith, who shares Brown’s vision for the song’s impact beyond the recording studio.
