Festive Spirit at Anglesey Abbey

Anglesey Abbey, a popular National Trust site located in Cambridgeshire, has transformed into a winter wonderland for the holiday season of 2025. The historic house is adorned with traditional Christmas decorations, offering visitors an immersive festive experience. Amy Britton, a writer for What’s On, provides an exclusive first look at this seasonal transformation.

Traditional Decorations and Hidden Snowmen

The house has been filled with elegant Christmas displays that complement Lord Fairhaven’s personal collection. Each room features thoughtful decorations, including a small but sweet tree in the dining room. The library is festively decorated to match its grand feel, while the kitchen includes mock desserts to add to the holiday ambiance.

The Snowman Trail

Part of the excitement for families visiting Anglesey Abbey during this festive period is the “The Snowman” trail. Children can embark on a search for 12 models of The Snowman hidden throughout the house and gardens, all painted by national and international artists inspired by both Raymond Briggs’ classic book and the festive song, “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

Festive Activities

For an interactive experience, families can participate in a story time session with Father Christmas in the Lower Gallery. These sessions are held every Saturday and Sunday in December, as well as on Fridays 19th, Monday 22nd, and Tuesday 23rd leading up to the big day. Each child will have the opportunity to take a photo with Father Christmas and receive a gift after the session, which lasts for 30 minutes and costs £24 per child.
