Known for her sharp exchanges with judges Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, as well as her pro partner Aljaz Skorjanec, she has proven to be a formidable competitor outside the dance floor as well.
A Career in Drag and Beyond
Born Christopher Dennis, La Voix has been active in the entertainment industry for decades. He rose to fame performing on cruise ships and working as a makeup artist. Additionally, he competed three times on Britain’s Got Talent, reaching the semi-finals with the London Big Gay Band in the eighth series.
In 2024, La Voix was announced as a contestant on the sixth series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, where she finished as runner-up. Her journey on this show also included a cameo appearance in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie as a drag artist.
The Graff Diamonds Robbery and Legal Troubles
In 2021, La Voix shared her harrowing experience from 2009 when she worked as a makeup artist on a project that turned out to be the planning of the notorious Graff Diamonds robbery. Speaking on the Little Did You Know podcast, he recounted how he was booked to work on two men who later carried out the £40 million theft. Initially unaware, Chris only realized his involvement when he saw CCTV footage of the robbers.
He was interviewed by detectives from Scotland Yard and faced legal proceedings. Chris described the experience as “very frightening” and highlighted that five men were ultimately convicted for their roles in the heist.
Familial Support and Recent Tragedy
Despite her success, La Voix has not shied away from sharing personal challenges. In April 2024, she announced the unexpected loss of her mother, Lynne, on social media. The post expressed deep sadness over this family tragedy.
“My darlings, it is with enormous sadness that I share with you some very sad news,” La Voix wrote. “On Tuesday I lost my darling Mum, Lynne.
It was unexpected and has come as a complete shock to the whole family.” The star’s father, who celebrated his 80th birthday earlier in the year, remains a source of support during this difficult time.
Moreover, La Voix’s father, Richard Dennis, expressed pride in her participation on Strictly Come Dancing. His speech at the makeover episode for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK was emotional and touched upon his own journey as an LGBTQ+ parent. “I can’t explain, but it’s a wonderful feeling,” he said, dedicating the performance to his son.
Looking Ahead
Despite personal challenges, La Voix remains enthusiastic about her Strictly Come Dancing experience and is looking forward to representing the show at future events. “My dad was so excited,” she shared. “He just turned 80 in December, I thought that would be a disaster! When you do any show, your family and friends go, that’s great.” La Voix hopes to continue making her family proud while entertaining audiences with her dynamic performances on the dance floor.
