Ex-Boyfriend’s Despicable Threats Ignored Legal Order

Aggressive and threatening ex-boyfriend Aiden Taylor (32) from Sandycroft Close, west Hull, has been sentenced to an eight-month suspended prison sentence for breaching a non-molestation order. The case highlights the severity of domestic threats and the legal consequences that follow such breaches.

Legal Breach Ignored

The court heard that Taylor ignored a court order just two days after it was made, demonstrating his disregard for legal constraints placed upon him due to a history of violent behavior. The non-molestation order had been imposed on May 8 and served on Taylor on May 23. However, only two days later, on May 25, he posted a photograph of the document on social media, using an obscene word about his ex-girlfriend, Julia Baggs, who was represented by Hannah Corken in the prosecution.

Threats and Insults

Taylor’s behavior extended beyond just one instance. On August 3, during a Facetime conversation, he made explicit threats towards his ex-girlfriend: “I would kick the f*** out of you” and expressed the hope that she got hit by a bus. He also used vulgar language to insult her. The court described Taylor’s actions as “absolutely despicable” and “vile.”

Impact on Ex-Girlfriend

The victim, who had been in a 15-year relationship with Taylor until February of the current year, said she felt “hurt, drained, and upset.” The non-molestation order was imposed after difficulties arose during their relationship, which were exacerbated by Taylor’s heavy drinking. His behavior not only violated legal orders but also caused significant distress to his ex-girlfriend.

Background and Mitigation

Taylor had a history of 13 previous convictions between 2011 and 2020, most recently for assault in July 2020. His mitigating lawyer, Cathy Kioko-Gilligan, acknowledged that Taylor accepted his behavior was wrong but attributed it to the breakdown of their long-term relationship. Kioko-Gilligan noted that Taylor had begun attending support sessions to address his alcohol use, which she described as “unbearable” during the final stages of their relationship.

Legal Verdict and Sentencing

The Recorder Caroline Sellars emphasized the seriousness of Taylor’s actions, stating: “Your behavior following the breakdown of that relationship was absolutely despicable. Things deteriorated for you, and no doubt your alcohol use spiralled out of control.” Despite recognizing his remorse and efforts to change, Taylor received an eight-month suspended prison sentence along with 150 hours of unpaid work and 12 days’ rehabilitation.

Miss Sellars warned that if Taylor’s behavior were to worsen due to a relapse in alcohol use, he could face further imprisonment. The case underscores the importance of adhering to legal orders and the severe consequences for those who violate them.
