A Place in the Sun’s Jasmine Harman Opens Up About Husband’s Sudden Heart Attack During Home Renovations

TV star Jasmine Harman has revealed how devastating it was for her when husband Jon suffered a heart attack during their home renovations, as documented on Channel 4’s popular series “A Place in the Sun.”

The Shocking Incident

In today’s episode of “A Place in the Sun,” Jasmine and Jon were filming the renovation work they are undertaking in their new Spanish home. The couple, who have two children—Joy, 12, and Albion, nine—had been sharing their journey to transform a dilapidated property into their dream abode.

However, what was meant to be a day of filming turned into a life-changing event when Jon collapsed unexpectedly. Jasmine recounts the harrowing moment: “We’d just had lunch and he said he started to feel funny and strange.

He went to lie down but then started to get very agitated and said there was a tightening in his chest. He was having trouble breathing, and everything that was touching him was annoying him.”

Jasmine immediately called the ambulance as soon as Jon mentioned feeling unwell. The couple’s worst fears were confirmed when doctors diagnosed Jon with a heart attack.

Heart Health History

The incident is not the first time the couple has dealt with heart-related issues. Tragically, in 2016, Jon’s sister Jo passed away from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome at the age of 40. Shortly after that, Jon himself suffered a heart attack.

“We had just had lunch and he said he started to feel funny and strange,” Jasmine explains. “He went to lie down but then started to get very agitated and said there was a tightening in his chest. He was having trouble breathing, and everything that was touching him was annoying him.”

Lessons Learned

The experience has significantly impacted both Jasmine and Jon. “Jon is fine now and he is back working,” Jasmine says. “I know this sounds strange but even with the background of what could have happened and worrying he could have died, it makes you feel lucky he just had a mild heart attack and everything is fine.”

Jasmine adds that she has learned to be more relaxed about life’s challenges: “It’s definitely taught me a lot about how responses shape our experience to whatever happens. There was a time if I was late for the school drop off, I would get stressed and furious. Now I’m like, ‘OK, the traffic is bad but we can’t help it.’ Life is what you make of it.

If you don’t ever take a chance or a risk, like we did by moving to Spain, you will never do anything new. It is worth it to dream big and take a risk that your heart tells you to do.”

Despite the added worry from knowing Jon had thrombosis after breaking his leg earlier in the year, Jasmine remained calm: “As he had thrombosis from the leg break, it was obviously scary but I don’t know why, something inside me was saying: ‘don’t panic, it’s going to be fine.’ I was very calm.”

Family Support and Future Plans

Mum Vasoulla flew out from the UK to support the family during this difficult time. Jasmine credits her mother for helping her stay focused and not overwhelmed: “With Jon also breaking his leg, now when I look back on everything, I don’t know how I did it. What I do know is I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my mum.

When she arrived, I let go of all the pressure and the stress and said: ‘right I need to focus on things’ and do it in a way to not overwhelm or burn myself out.”

Despite the challenges, Jasmine and Jon are determined to continue with their renovation project and filming “A Place in the Sun.” “We don’t have any regrets about the move to Spain. We are really enjoying living here,” she says. “We are doing the stuff we wouldn’t be doing if we were still in London and so it is the lifestyle that we’ve appreciated so much.”

Looking ahead, Jasmine expresses her commitment to helping others with home renovations: “Maybe I could help other people renovate their place in the sun. I love the human stories behind ‘A Place In The Sun’ and the house hunt is a vehicle to get to know their story, why they decided to do it and why they deserve it.”

She concludes by emphasizing the importance of enjoying every moment: “Anything I can do to help change people’s lives and be brave, I’m up for it. And we are both determined to enjoy every second of our time in Spain.”
