Six Days of Blizzards Looming Over the UK

Weather experts are warning Britons to brace for an intense period of winter weather, with a forecast indicating six days of blizzards that could bring up to 5cm of snow per hour in some areas. The severe cold is expected to hit the United Kingdom from November 14, as advanced weather models predict widespread snowfall across Scotland and into England.

Heavy Snow Expected from November 14

The Arctic flurries are set to start on November 14, with the GFS (Global Forecast System) model showing a significant snow event engulfing most of Scotland by around 6 pm. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated in eastern and central regions, where up to 5cm of snow could fall per hour.

Southward Movement of Snow

The intense snow will move southward on November 15, hitting higher grounds in northern England. Northern Ireland is also expected to experience some snowfall, with a rate of around 1cm per hour. Meanwhile, lower-lying areas of England and Wales are forecasted to receive heavy rain.

Continued Snowfall through November 16-18

The snow is predicted to continue in the Cairngorms National Park from November 16 to 18. By this time, northern England, Wales, the Midlands, and the south coast, including potential areas like Southampton, could see some snowfall. However, any snow expected around this time is anticipated to be light, with less than 1cm per hour.

By November 20, All Snow Drifted Away

The Met Office forecast indicates that all snow will have drifted away from the UK by November 20. This marks a transition period where the weather may turn drier and cooler overall, with an increased risk of overnight frost.

Met Office Warns of Potential Hill Snow in Late November

In addition to the initial six-day forecast, the Met Office has issued a warning for potential hill snow from late November through December 5. While the weather patterns during this period remain highly uncertain, there is an increased chance of spells of high pressure, which could bring more dry weather compared to the current conditions.

According to the national weather agency, while some areas may still experience rain and stronger winds, particularly in the west, there is a risk of hill snow mainly in northern regions. The overall temperature is expected to remain near or slightly above average, though colder spells are possible if any prolonged settled periods develop.

The UK public is advised to prepare for fluctuating weather conditions as the country braces for what could be a challenging winter period ahead.
