Carr’s Show Creates Comedic Chaos in Galashiels
Alan Carr, the perennially popular TV comedian and host of Celebrity Traitors, has once again proven his appeal with a show that sold out in less than two minutes. The tickets for his first event in the Scottish Borders, scheduled at MacArts in Galashiels on June 18th, went on sale this morning at 10am and were all snapped up by 12pm.
“Although it was a total surprise to be approached by Alan Carr to perform at MacArts,” says Venue Manager Chris Wemyss, “unsurprisingly his show when it went on sale this morning sold out within two minutes.”
From Stage to Screen: Carr’s Next Big Move
Ayton Castle in nearby Berwickshire is not just a new home for Carr; it’s also the setting for his upcoming reality TV series, Castle Man. The show will be produced by Expectation, the same company behind Clarkson’s Farm on Prime Video. “It was now widely reported that celebrity Alan Carr was in the process of purchasing Ayton Castle from the current owners,” reads a recent meeting minute from the Ayton Community Council.
“The castle will become Alan Carr’s main home, it will not be a hotel or spa,” continues Wemyss. “The production would involve a crew of 20 people and they would be looking to use local suppliers where possible to meet any of their needs.”
Alexander the Great?
Despite the surprise success of his show, there is still uncertainty about who will join Carr on stage at MacArts. The intimate venue can hold 150 seated and it’s unclear if the performance will be filmed for Castle Man. “We’re just trying to plan ahead,” says Wemyss, “but we need a bit more information from Alan first.”
“You might have heard I bought my own castle… yes, the rumours are true. The only thing missing is you,” Carr wrote on Instagram recently. “Now if you want to let your hair down in one of Scotland’s most beautiful castles, then you’re in luck. If your having a birthday, any kind of celebration, or even a wedding.”
“Be my guest,” he added, encouraging people to contact [email protected] for more information.
The Rush for Tickets
Much like the excitement surrounding Carr’s castle purchase, the ticket rush was swift. More than 450 people waited in the online queue when tickets went on sale at 10am. Despite MacArts giving just a day’s notice, the site’s operator confirmed all tickets had gone within two minutes of going live.
“Absolutely gutted – can they not put a screen outside?” one disappointed fan asked. “500+ in front of me, bang on 10am??” another pondered aloud. The venue has promised to address these concerns moving forward.
