David Klemmer, a 31-year-old forward with an impressive track record in Rugby League, is joining St Helens on a two-year contract after leaving the St George Illawarra Dragons. His experience spans multiple clubs including Wests Tigers, Newcastle Knights, and Canterbury Bulldogs, where he amassed a staggering 260 NRL appearances.

Klemmer’s international credentials are equally impressive, with 14 State of Origin caps for New South Wales and 19 Test matches for Australia. He was a key player in the Kangaroos’ World Cup victory in 2017, further cementing his status as one of the most formidable forwards in Rugby League.

New Head Coach Paul Rowley Expresses Enthusiasm

Commenting on Klemmer’s signing, head coach Paul Rowley stated, “David is a big addition to our squad and adds real strength to what is already a solid pack. It’s exciting because he’s not just a big player, he’s also got a bit of football in him.”

Rowley highlighted Klemmer’s competitive nature and his readiness to contribute both on and off the field. “He’s coming over with a lot to play for,” said Rowley. “Speaking to him, it’s clear to see how driven he is to succeed. We’re adding a really good bloke to our group too, and I’ve been speaking to people who know him well, and they all speak very highly of him.”

Klemmer Shares His Excitement for the Move

When asked about his decision to join St Helens, Klemmer said, “I’m very excited! It’s a massive honour to be joining St Helens; it’s such a big club and I feel truly privileged. Saints has got such a rich history, and I know they demand success, such is the pedigree that the Club has.

I can’t wait to be part of that environment.”

Reflecting on his new role, Klemmer expressed enthusiasm for contributing to the team’s development both as a senior player and mentor to the younger players in the Academy. “Saints’ Academy has a lot of talented kids coming through, and I’m keen to work with those boys who are pushing to be regulars in the team,” he said. “In the same vein, I’m excited to work with the likes of Alex Walmsley and Curtis Sironen. I played with Siro a fair bit, coming through at the same time, so it’s a good mix. It should make it exciting in training.”

Looking ahead to his first few weeks at St Helens, Klemmer expressed eagerness to meet his new teammates and get started. “I can’t wait to get over with my family, get amongst it all and meet all the boys,” he added. “I will do everything I can to represent the jersey in the right way.

I cannot wait to get started, meet everyone involved at the Club, and I will give my all for St.Helens.”

The signing of David Klemmer marks a significant milestone in St Helens’ pursuit of continued success in Super League. With his wealth of experience and competitive spirit, he is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s future under the leadership of head coach Paul Rowley.
