Nathan Aspinall’s Walk-On Song Controversy at Grand Slam of Darts

Nathan Aspinall, known as one of the most entertaining players on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) circuit, is currently considering a change to his iconic walk-on song during the upcoming Grand Slam of Darts. Since 2019, fans have enjoyed seeing him perform “Mr Brightside” by The Killers upon entering the stage. However, Aspinall revealed on Sky Sports’ Love the Darts podcast that he had been testing out a new song: Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” Despite expressing his love for Eminem and finding potential in the new tune, Aspinall believes it might have negative consequences for his career.

Speaking about the potential change, Aspinall stated, “Eminem is my idol, and I absolutely love his music, but I can’t change it.

I was practising in the dance room and Lose Yourself came on in my ear and the beat at the beginning, I thought, ‘that could be good.’ So we got it edited and I think it sounds amazing to be fair, but it’s not been on Sky yet. I don’t know if they’ve approved it or not, but at the weekend it sounded brilliant and on the Euro Tour it was great.” Nevertheless, Aspinall is confident that both “Mr Brightside” and his new choice will remain in play for the Grand Slam of Darts.

Fitness Routine and Mindset Management

In addition to considering a change to his walk-on song, Aspinall has been focusing on improving his physical fitness. According to Aspinall, running 5km regularly is crucial for maintaining mental clarity during the high-pressure environment of touring as a professional darts player. He explained that being active helps him stay away from unhealthy habits such as excessive lying in bed after late-night arrivals at hotels.

“Running’s been a massive thing for me,” Aspinall said, “It’s so stressful and there’s a lot of pressure on you when you’re doing this job.

If things aren’t going your way, the pressure builds even more. I think for me, taking up running again is keeping my mind clear, so if things aren’t going my way, you just forget about it and move on.” Aspinall also mentioned his collaboration with sports psychologists and hypnotherapists as part of his overall strategy to manage stress and perform at his best.
