Community Unites for Remembrance in Kirklees
Kirklees communities will gather this weekend to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. On Sunday, 9 November 2025, residents across the borough are invited to participate in a series of events that pay tribute to fallen service members.
Official Civic Parades
The day begins with two official Civic Parades organized by Kirklees Council. In Huddersfield, the parade will start at 10:30 am from Town Hall and reach the Huddersfield Parish Church for a Service of Remembrance at 10:50 am. Following the service, the parade will re-form around 11:40 am to return to the Town Hall where Mayor Councillor Liz Smaje will address the crowd on Ramsden Street.
Events Across Local Communities
Dewsbury’s events commence at Dewsbury Minster with a Service of Remembrance starting at 9:45 am. The parade leaves Dewsbury Town Hall at 9:35 am and proceeds to Memorial Gardens on Longcauseway for a wreath-laying ceremony, where Deputy Mayor Councillor will give an address.
Personal Reflections
“Remembrance is not solely about looking back,” said Councillor Liz Smaje. “It is also about recognizing the legacy of those who served and asking ourselves how we can carry that legacy forward. It is about teaching our children not only the history of war, but the importance of peace.” Residents are encouraged to take a moment both to remember and reflect on what remembrance means in their lives.
Events in Batley and Birstall
Batley’s annual parade will meet at Town Hall at 10:00 am, stepping off at 10:20 am for a service in Memorial Park at 11:00 am. In Birstall, the parade starts next to the library at 1:45 pm and marches towards St Peter’s Church for an afternoon service.
