A Group of Neighbors Hits Lottery Jackpot in England

Seven residents of Brookmans Park in Hertfordshire, England, have achieved a dream come true after winning the Millionaire Street prize in the People’s Postcode Lottery. Their postal code, AL9 6PT, was announced as the lucky winner in the latest weekly draw.

The Winning Ticket

Each of the seven winners had purchased tickets through the lottery’s monthly subscription service, with each ticket valued at £83,333 ($109,000). Samesh Kumari, a retired fashion firm owner, claimed one of the largest shares—£249,999 ($328,000)—by purchasing three tickets after taking out a subscription in memory of his late mother, Chanchal.

Reflecting on this unexpected win, Samesh said, “I think mum would be really proud. She certainly believed.

I’m not sure I did, but she was right. I’ve only been playing for about four months. To have won so quickly is amazing.” He plans to use the money to support his family, stating, “This is extra special.

For me, it’s always been about family. You get to a stage in your life when you try to do everything for the kids.”

Other Winners and Their Plans

Khalid Mannan and wife Nivedita Bajaj, both pediatricians, won £83,333 with their single ticket. They plan to take their two daughters on a trip to Canada and the United States, particularly hoping to visit Alaska: “We’ll have to find a cruise and book it,” said Nivedita.

Another winner, Daksha Maroo, scooped up £166,666 ($219,000) with two tickets. She intends to treat her pharmacist husband, Dilip, to a 40th wedding anniversary trip: “I want to take him to India,” she told the lottery. “We had already booked to go to Alaska before and had to cancel it because of the pandemic.” They also plan to reschedule this canceled trip and take their two sons, daughters-in-law, and grandsons to Disney World in Florida.

Andros Pantelli and his wife Margarita collected £83,333 with a single ticket. They hope to realize their dream of taking a cruise to Iceland or Greenland to see the Northern Lights: “Going to Disney in Orlando with the family would be nice,” Andros said. “It’s one of my favorite places, and we took our kids when they were little.”

Community Impact

The win has brought joy not just to the winners but also to their community. Reflecting on what this means for her neighborhood as a whole, Daksha added, “It’s really good to win with neighbors. It feels really special, and I’m pleased for them as well.”

Brookmans Park residents have shown that collective effort can lead to significant financial gains, providing inspiration and hope for others who may be considering participating in similar lottery programs.
