Preparations for Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026
President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar FAYE presided over the Conseil des Ministres on November 5, 2025. The meeting focused primarily on the upcoming Youth Olympic Games (JOJ) scheduled for Dakar from October 31 to November 13, 2026. FAYE highlighted the importance of the event as a national showcase and emphasized the need for timely infrastructure development and security measures.
On October 31, 2025, President FAYE launched the official mascot “AYO” at the presentation ceremony.
This was followed by an inspection tour on November 2, 2025, where he visited ongoing construction projects for accommodation sites and sports facilities. He instructed relevant government bodies, the Organizing Committee of JOJ, public institutions, and private companies to ensure that all necessary infrastructure is completed within the stipulated timeframe and with the best possible quality, safety, and sustainability.
Government Policies and Initiatives
The Prime Minister’s communication on November 4, 2025, detailed several key government initiatives. The President called for enhancing social and solidary economy by accelerating cooperative approaches across the national territory. He also stressed the importance of addressing poverty, vulnerability, inequality, and social exclusion.
