The Strange Case of Jeffrey Epstein’s Inheritance
Karyna Shuliak was Jeffrey Epstein’s last partner, but she won’t see a penny in his will.
Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, wrote his will in prison before his suicide on August 10, 2019. It left Shuliak $100 million in assets, including his Manhattan townhouse, his apartment on Avenue Foch in Paris, his private islands, a ranch in New Mexico, and a 32-carat diamond ring. But American and French authorities decided to freeze the estate for a victims’ compensation fund.
A Loyal Companion
Shuliak’s relationship with Epstein began in 2009 when she was a 20-year-old dental student at Minsk University. Known for his preference for women from Eastern Europe, Epstein arranged for her admission to Columbia University and helped secure her residence permit.
The Road to Citizenship
In August 2013, Shuliak married one of Epstein’s acquaintances and divorced in 2018 after obtaining American citizenship. Throughout their relationship, she played a crucial role as the manager of Epstein’s properties and social affairs. Her name appeared 40,144 times in over three million documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Epstein’s Legacy
Despite being one of his last partners, Shuliak was slated to inherit a significant portion of Epstein’s wealth. Yet, American and French authorities decided otherwise. The estate is now frozen to allocate funds for victims’ compensation.
You might think this is new, but it’s been the case since 2019. It’s a testament to how these legal battles can play out even after someone’s death.
